The Faith Academy Track Team recently participated in the Fayetteville Invitational Track Meet, which saw 11 schools from the surrounding counties represented. However, what stood out most about the day was the hurricane force winds that made it extremely challenging for the athletes to compete. As a result, the 100 meter dash and hurdles had to be turned around to allow the runners to run with the wind. Additionally, the Pole Vault and High Jump poles were blown off the standards before the athletes even had a chance to jump or vault.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, the Faith Academy Track Team put up a great fight and walked away with several medals. Elizabeth Walker led the way by winning 1st place in the Pole Vault event with a height of 7’6″. Meanwhile, Noah Figueroa secured 2nd place in both the Discus event with a distance of 120’5″ and the Shot Put event with a distance of 39’4″. Noelle Walker also had an impressive performance, taking home 2nd place in the 200-meter event with a time of 30.63.
Other notable performances from the team included Mikaela Skardenni finishing 3rd in the 3200-meter event with a time of 15:00, and Ethan Stegent also finishing 3rd in the 3200-meter event with a time of 11:20. Stegent also secured 4th place in the 1600-meter event with a time of 5:14. Daniela Skardenni finished in 5th place in the 800-meter event with a time of 2:59, and Mikaela Skardenni also secured 6th place in the 1600-meter event with a time of 6:43. Finally, Luke Wicklein finished in 6th place in the 400-meter event with a time of 58.28.
Although the times and distances were slightly slower than expected due to the team’s recent Spring break and 10-day break from training, the team is now focusing on productive practices to bring those times back down and improve distances and heights where necessary.
The Faith Academy Track Team is now gearing up for their next challenge, the Rice Consolidated “Swamp Relays” on Thursday, March 30th. The meet will begin with field events at 10:30 AM, followed by the 3200-meter event at 11:00 AM, and the running finals at 2:30 PM. With their hard work and dedication, the team is sure to put up another great performance and make their school proud.
