Sealy Tiger Men’s Powerlifting Team Perform Admirably at Regionals

The Sealy High School Men’s powerlifting team put on a show at the Regional meet, with every athlete performing at a high level. Despite some frustration, the Tigers overcame any adversity that came their way and competed with their hearts on their sleeves.

In the 114 lb class, Jackson Blanks impressed with a 5 lb PR on squat (255) and a 10 lb PR on deadlift (285), for a total of 695 lbs, securing 7th place. Cayde Novosad put on an impressive performance in the 132 lb class, earning 6th place with a total of 950 lbs. Adam Mock took 11th place in the same class with a 5 lb PR on squat (350) and a total of 845 lbs.

Jeremiah Metzgar put on an outstanding performance, earning himself the title of Regional Champion in the 148 lb class. He achieved a 15 lb PR on squat (500), a 5 lb PR on bench (335), a 10 lb PR on deadlift (535), and awards for Outstanding Lifter and Outstanding Dead Lifter (Light Platform), for a total of 1370 lbs. Alex Mendez also secured the title of Regional Champion in the 242 lb class, earning a 5 lb PR on bench (335), a 15 lb PR on deadlift (545), and a total of 1395 lbs.

Seth Pine put up a good fight in the 181 lb class, securing 7th place with a 5 lb PR on bench (275) and a 10 lb PR on deadlift (425), for a total of 1155 lbs. In the 308 lb class, Daniel Barrera achieved an impressive 30 lb PR on bench (290), for a total of 1205 lbs and 11th place.

Overall, the Sealy Tiger Men’s powerlifting team performed exceptionally well, with special congratulations going out to Regional Champions Jeremiah Metzgar and Alex Mendez for qualifying for the State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene on March 24th. The entire team will be back to compete again and continue to represent their school with pride.
